My brother is a firefighter! My kids love it when we are together because they get to hang out on the trucks, put on the gear, and just be with their Uncle Phil! I really thought about him this week…
This week, two window washers were stuck outside of the 69th floor of the new World Trade Center building. For almost two hours, these guys were literally dangling by a cable! Not the kind of day any of us would like to have––EVER!!! As I write this, the two gentlemen have been brought to safety by the New York Fire Department, who cut a hole through a window and pulled them in. Despite the $4 billion price tag of this new building, the lives of the two men came first! The Firemen did what they do best––snatching people from the grip of potential demise!
As I watched this, I thought about the many people we know and do life with that are simply hanging by a cable! People going through life, doing their thing, minding their own business––then all of the sudden they find themselves at a place where life is rushing before them and they are on the verge of spiritual life and death!
The question of the hour: Where are the Firefighters? The answer…just look in the mirror. The Bible says in Jude 23, “Rescue others by snatching them from the flames of judgment. Show mercy to still others, but do so with great caution, hating the sins that contaminate their lives.”
If you are a Christ-Follower, then you are called to be “Firefighter!” Reach into the fire or cut a hole through that $4 Billion building, regardless of where you are. There are people dangling by a cable…fighting between life and death.
Numb. 16:48, “There he stood, between the living and the dead, and the plague stopped!”
When you and I stand and fight, Jesus will make the difference!
Phil, thanks for standing and fighting for people that are hanging by a cable between life and death! I Love You Bro!
