God, Why Don’t You Do Something!?

QuestionI took this title from the Matthew West song “Do Something.” You can watch the video and hear the song right HERE.

Many times we do as this song suggests. We hold our fists in the air, whether literally or figuratively, and shout out “God, why don’t You do something?” In full transparency, I have found myself doing that this week. Here’s why…

  • The turbulence that continues in the Middle East, ISIS, beheadings, burnings, torture.
  • The fighting in the Ukraine. The USA potentially getting involved, inevitably, could bring war with Russia back upfront and personal. 5,000 deaths this week.
  • The week of the Super Bowl, over 600 arrests were made in American cities involving the human trafficking of young girls and women.
  • In the town I live in, just over 1,000 layoffs from the same company of just 6,000 total employees within 6 months.

“God, why don’t You do something?”

If you continue to listen to the song, you hear how the heart of the singer really relays the heart of God. “He has done and is doing something – He created you and I!”

Sometimes I ask, “What can I do?” Have you ever asked that question? Let me give you something’s that you and I can do to help the world that we live in.

Pray – 1 Thessalonians 5:17, “Never stop praying.”

Love – John 15:12 – 13, “12 Jesus said, “This is my commandment: Love each other in the same way I have loved you. 13 There is no greater love than to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.”

Give Selflessly – James 3:16, “For wherever there is jealousy and selfish ambition, there you will find disorder and evil of every kind.”

Serve Others – Philippians 2:2 – 4, “2Then make me truly happy by agreeing wholeheartedly with each other, loving one another, and working together with one mind and purpose. 3Don’t be selfish; don’t try to impress others. Be humble, thinking of others as better than yourselves. 4Don’t look out only for your own interests, but take an interest in others, too.”

Forgive – Luke 6:37, “Do not judge others, and you will not be judged. Do not condemn others, or it will all come back against you. Forgive others, and you will be forgiven.”

Keep on Swinging – Philippians 3:12 – 14, “12I don’t mean to say that I have already achieved these things or that I have already reached perfection. But I press on to possess that perfection for which Christ Jesus first possessed me. 13No, dear brothers and sisters, I have not achieved it, but I focus on this one thing: Forgetting the past and looking forward to what lies ahead, 14I press on to reach the end of the race and receive the heavenly prize for which God, through Christ Jesus, is calling us.”

If you read this blog frequently, you have heard me quote this next verse – ALOT. Jesus said in John 16:33, “Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows. But take heart, because I have overcome the world.” In everything we do, remember that Jesus has already died and risen again for us on earth! The work is finished; we just have to point people to the life-changing power of Jesus Christ! Remember He is with us and for us!

God, thank you for doing something with me and through me!
