Hide and Seek

HideSeekI have to admit something to you today – I wasn’t much of a “Hide-and-Seek” player when I was younger. As a matter of fact, I always felt like I was pretty lousy at the game because of my size and speed. There wasn’t enough time to find a space to hide that fit me! On top of that, I was so clumsy––stealth was definitely not my gift!

The older I get, the more I have learned that size and speed are very “over-comable” hindrances. As a matter of fact, I love the challenge of taking my time and hiding behind a door, the couch, or dresser––quietly finding a place where my family knows that I could be, and “finding” them! The funny thing is that they don’t always look for me, but I am always looking for them…

Recently, I heard a Christian Leader say that we can’t say things that are pure and life-giving if we do not have the Word of God hidden in our heart. This immediately turned my imagination to the “Hide-and-Seek” analogy. Did you know that the Bible refers to it as well?

Psalm 119:9-16 (NLT)…

9 How can a young person stay pure? By obeying your word. 10 I have tried hard to find you— don’t let me wander from your commands. 11 I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you. 12 I praise you, O Lord; teach me your decrees. 13 I have recited aloud all the regulations you have given us. 14 I have rejoiced in your laws as much as in riches. 15 I will study your commandments and reflect on your ways. 16 I will delight in your decrees and not forget your word.

Do you catch the “Hide-and-Seek” game found right here in these 8 verses?

  • Vs. 10 – David is trying to find God.
  • Vs. 11 – David finds God, by hiding the Word of God in his heart!
  • Vs. 16 – The games ends with delight as David stays in the Word of God and never forgets it!

Wherever you are at right now in your life, let me encourage you to run after God! Run to Him in the Bible, the written Word of God! There you will find Him! There you will not have to exhaust yourself. You will not have to fret and worry about being left out in your hiding spot. And there you will find delight in knowing Him and learning from His Word!

It truly is the best game of “Hide-n-Seek” that you will ever be in!
