The Wet-Suit of Insulation

ScubaThis is a thought by a great friend of mine – Ms. Pat. She is an intercessor and a lady that loves Jesus with all of her heart, soul, and body! Let her words feed you today!

Romans 13:14

“But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh in regard to {its} lusts.”   Romans 13:14 NASB

In the late 1980’s my husband became a certified diver.  On each dive he wore a wetsuit which is a tight body fitting garment made of foamed neoprene.  It is worn by divers, surfers and others who engage in water sports.  It provides thermal insulation, abrasion resistance and buoyancy.  It does allow a small amount of water in, but keeps you warm when you are wet.

Putting on and taking off a wetsuit is not an easy task. It requires a lot of wriggling and contorting but, once on, it stays firmly in place until the diver removes it.

When I think about the verse above, I visualize a diver putting on a wetsuit.

When we accept Jesus as our Lord and Savior, we cast off our sinful nature and put on Christ’s sinless nature.  He is the pattern (blueprint) or guide for us to follow. When we obey His precepts and commands (by yielding to the leading and guiding of the Holy Spirit within us), it protects us from the “evil one” and provides no opportunity for us to slip back into our former sinful lifestyle.

Ephesians 5:1 – 5 says: “Therefore be imitators of God, as beloved children;

And walk in love, just as Christ also loved you and gave Himself up for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God as a fragrant aroma.

But immorality or any impurity or greed must not even be named among you, as is proper among saints;

And {there must be no} filthiness and silly talk, or coarse jesting, which are not fitting, but rather giving of thanks.

For this you know with certainty, that no immoral or impure person or covetous man, who is an idolater, has an inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and God.” (NASB)

Daily fellowshipping with God and in-depth study of His word insulates us from doubting His guidance, and builds a strong defense against the attacks of the enemy.
