MISSIONS! One of my favorite things in the church! The strategic arm of “letting the world know” of the live transforming power of the Gospel of Jesus Christ! What a great venture in which to be involved! I want to give you two different quotes that can help fuel the passion for missions.
Jesus said in Matt. 24:14, “And the Good News about the Kingdom will be preached throughout the whole world, so that all nations will hear it; and then the end will come.” The hard reality is that not all will receive the name of Jesus, but regardless of that fact, the gospel will be preached to all. How do you balance the fact that the Gospel will be preached, but not everyone will receive? How do you keep going? Doesn’t that seem so futile?
William Carey, a shoemaker from England in the 1700’s said, “I will go, but you must hold the rope for me!” William Carey knew that the heart of God was broken for the people of India, but knew he must go. Yet he couldn’t do it alone. He had to have the help of the people that he knew and loved in London! We have to do it together!
Guess what Christ Follower, we are those people! We are not in England, we are in Iowa, Maine, Oregon, Nebraska, North Carolina––everywhere! We must hold the ropes for the people that have accepted the call to go unto the world and share the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Will you join with me and hold the ropes…
… “So that the whole world will know!”
