I miss New England in the fall; truth be told the winter, spring, and summer as well! The sights, the water, the history, the smells, the food; and on that note Dunkin Doughnuts! Well, this week New England came to my little city in Iowa! A Duncan Doughnuts opened right on the main drag of town! Awesomeness! They have the best Iced Coffee and the Boston Crème doughnut is to die for!
On opening day I went to buy 3 doughnuts for a friend who cannot drive anymore! (I didn’t get anything for me because I want the first time to be with my family!) Going on opening day is not the smartest thing to do in the whole world. The process is not really figured out yet, the employees don’t have the cash register streamlined, and on and on…
The one thing that really stood out to me was that the layout of the store was completely backwards compared to the stores in New England. I felt so discombobulated. The layout was so foreign to me. I felt like a stranger in a very familiar place. Now, I am not a New Englander, nor have I had a DD in my town for most of my life, but I have come to know the DD layout! It was wrong here.
Now I am over the layout issue and I will frequent this DD as often as I can, or as often as Jen will allow me. The Boston Crème Doughnuts are that good!
In this little adventure on Wednesday of this week, I got to thinking about the words 1 Peter 2:11-12,
“11 Dear friends, I warn you as “temporary residents and foreigners” to keep away from worldly desires that wage war against your very souls. 12 Be careful to live properly among your unbelieving neighbors. Then even if they accuse you of doing wrong, they will see your honorable behavior, and they will give honor to God when he judges the world.”
You know the layout of your world may not be exactly what you think it should be. Maybe there is a little too much sin or ungodliness in your neighborhood. Regardless, remember you are just passing through. You are own your way to heaven, to eternity, to forever with Jesus!
Question though, will there be a Dunkin Doughnuts in Heaven? Just kidding! Not Really!
