Big Shoulders at Christmastime

JesusOne of the most predominant verses quoted during Christmas is…

Isaiah 9:6-7, Hope in the Messiah

6 For a child is born to us, a son is given to us. The government will rest on his shoulders. And he will be called: Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. 7 His government and its peace will never end. He will rule with fairness and justice from the throne of his ancestor David for all eternity. The passionate commitment of the Lord of Heaven’s Armies will make this happen!

During the Christmas season, people deal with loss, pain and heartache. The holidays bring such a mixture of emotions and feelings. On top of that, at this point in history, like no time in modern history, there is a sense of hopelessness, unknown, and despair on the global stage. Countries and peoples are looking for leadership, looking for hope, and looking for peace. There is a sense of desperation.

When you really study the time period of the birth of Christ, you will find that there are a lot of similarities between now (2015 A.D.) and then (00 B.C.). I find that just as strange as it may seem, there is comfort in knowing that Christ is coming with some pretty Big Shoulders at Christmastime––both then and now!

I realize that the headlines are packed with doom and gloom, elections, and scandals. The economy could better be classified as a thriller or a roller coaster ride. Whole nations and peoples are being displaced and the world doesn’t seem to know the answer! Yet tucked away in this Old Testament Prophets’ declarations, the answer is penned…

  • A Child will be Born – Who? – JESUS!
  • All the Government will be on His Shoulders – Who? – JESUS!
  • He has 4 names – BIG NAMES – Wonderful, Mighty, Everlasting, and Prince – Who? – Jesus!
  • The peace He will bring, it will never end! – Who? – JESUS!
  • He will rule with fairness and justice! – Who? – JESUS!
  • And it will happen, because God declares it!
  • So what is this BLOG really all about? Glad you asked…

JESUS!!!! No matter what your feelings and emotions tell you. No matter what is playing out on the world scene. No matter what the bank account shows, no matter what the job situation is, or how the doctor’s report looks; there is this little baby and His name is Jesus! And guess what? He had really BIG shoulders––then and now––and not just at Christmastime, but all year long!

Merry Christmas!
