Scripture says ever so plainly in…
Proverbs 22:6 (NLT) “Direct your children onto the right path, and when they are older, they will not leave it.”
It seems to me that in our culture the responsibility of parenting is becoming less and less the role of a mom and dad, and more and more the role of government mandates and insurances guidelines. I continue to see the culture change and the safety and unity of the family becoming less and less of primary importance in the fabric and morality of this nation. While I love the good old USA, it doesn’t abdicate my responsibility to be the father of 3 precious children that were given Jen and I to love and cherish, to raise and to guide, and to protect and provide for!
Parents, we have to wake up to the correct role we play and to learn Parenting 101 – “Those kids of ours, were given to us from God. It is our mandate to love them and lead them to love the Lord with their whole heart and soul!”
This week I became appalled at something that I found out. A mom took her 13 son to the doctor’s office for his physical. At one point the nurse came in and said to the 13 boy, “Now you are 13, so if you have sex, make sure you have a condom.”
I couldn’t believe my ears as I was listening to this play out in my mind. Where have we come as a nation, where the pediatrics nurse tries to play the role of a parent. A parental role that doesn’t give advice that is wise to the heart, and that is arguably safe for the child’s body.
If you are reading this and you’re a mom or dad, it is your God-given mandate and responsibility to your son or daughter to do everything possible to raise them according to the precepts of scripture, not the laws of the medical field or the ideas that some think tank in Washington D.C. comes up with for you and me! These ideas do not fight off the consequences of sin, they simply stave off (and only for a short while) the consequences of sin – DEATH!
This is not just death in a physical sense, although that will surely come if it goes unbridled; but more importantly a spiritual death. Sin leads to a separation from God, our heavenly Father! Please read the Word, know the Word, and use the Word to provide the basic foundations for your son and daughter. As said to me once, “Your kids are your greatest inheritance ever given to you. You will pay ahead with them, whether eternally or earthly!” They are an inheritance, a reward, a priceless love gift from heaven. We are stewards of these precious history makers. Never let their value be lost because of their devaluing within our culture.
Psalm 127:3-5 (NLT)
3 Children are a gift from the Lord; they are a reward from him. 4 Children born to a young man are like arrows in a warrior’s hands. 5 How joyful is the man whose quiver is full of them! He will not be put to shame when he confronts his accusers at the city gates.
Just so you know I will be calling the Doctor’s Office of that 13 year old boy. I want them to know just how much I love him!
