Anything I Want, Right?

Tomato“Why can’t I do that?” Have you ever asked that question to your parents? Your spouse? Your boss? How about your God? If you are like me, you hate the answer “Because I said so!” Okay, I got that you said so, but I need a reason. Most of the time I got reasons––reasons that I did not like…reasons that I did not understand; but very rarely did I ever get a reason that I understood and that I liked!

It was for many years in my life that I didn’t realize that I always knew the reason. I just didn’t know the reason in my heart! 1 Cor. 10:23 has the answer.  “23 You say, “I am allowed to do anything”—but not everything is good for you. You say, “I am allowed to do anything”—but not everything is beneficial.”  I really can do anything that I want to do! I am free. I am an American. I am an Adult (or maybe I am about to be an adult!). Just leave me alone and let me be!

Have you ever watched a tomato on a counter top. Okay, before you tell me that I waste too much time, think about it. A tomato on the counter, left to itself, will do what? – ROT! If we leave ourselves alone and don’t take 1 Cor. 10 to heart, we will ROT!

You are allowed to do anything! You certainly can do anything that you want! But, just because those are the facts, doesn’t mean that you should! Take an inventory of your life this morning. “I am allowed to do anything I want, but not everything is beneficial!”
