Have you ever been in a time of worship––whether it be in a “corporate setting” or just God and you alone in a car, bedroom, on the beach, or somewhere? Have you ever been in that same place and found yourself very discouraged? The thing you need more than anything else is to hear God say that He is right there with you and that everything is going to be okay.
I assume the answer to both scenarios is YES! Several times in the life of King David, in 1 and 2 Samuel, you will find King David in a very discouraged state. At one point (1 Sam. 30), the men traveling with David found themselves completely alone. All their families had been killed and their town left in ruins. David was in trouble as the men around him were talking about stoning him. Talk about discouragement!
But something amazing happened to David. In that same passage (1 Sam. 30:6), “But David found strength in the Lord his God!” David was losing control––death all around him, friends walking out on him, homeless, probably tired and hungry; yet David found strength in the Lord his God!
Recently I was talking to a Pastor who is in his 90’s. He asked if I had ever been discouraged. “Well Yes!” I replied. This was his response, “Want to know how I keep from being discouraged?” “Sure!”
Here it is…
Remember…
The Harvest is His, I’m just a laborer!
The Vineyard is His, I’m just a servant!
The Battle is His, I’m just a soldier!
The Family is His, I’m just one of the kids!
The Church is His; He said He would build it!
I don’t know what you are struggling through today! Find a place to worship Him––your office, bedroom, a long walk on the beach, or down the street. Worshiping Him is another phrase for “Finding strength in the Lord YOUR God!”
Be Encouraged! The Battle is His, and you are one of HIS kids!
Great teaching. Needed that! Thanks PD.
