At Heritage Christian Church, (the church that I pastor), we are getting for a 5-week series entitled “5 Truths of Your Money and Your Mission.” I am really excited about these messages because in my time studying and preparing, God has opened my heart to a truth I have perhaps heard before, but that is really sinking in this go ‘round!
I would like to share it with you. It’s pretty simple actually. Are you ready? Simply put, God’s doesn’t bless the tithe or the tither. Guess what? He blesses obedience! Why? It is so we can turn around and bless those that do not have! Now don’t get me wrong. There are some very straightforward principles of money management in scripture, and in the top five there is a strong bent to give cheerfully a tithe of 10%! That is a fact! Nonetheless, there is an even stronger tie to the obedience of a person’s heart and the motive of their heart to give away to those that do not have or know!
Watch this in Duet. 28:1-14. Moses lists 27 different “blessings,” or as I like to call them “ingredients” to the recipe of God’s favor. 27! That is a lot of favor-ites! The catch is not that you give your money or simply help out; the catch is that you obey God! In reading this passage it dawned on me that there are 27 chapters before this one chapter on the “Blessings of Obedience.” There are five chapters before this one that Moses writes as “Calls to Obedience” or reminders as to what obedience brings. All of them are framed so that you can be the change in not just your own life, but also in someone else’s life––perhaps to bring them to life.
Let me remind you today, God loves to take care of His children! The price He paid was that His son Jesus willingly died on the cross! This gave us freedom from the trap of sin and death. We as Christians love to be taken care of by Him; the price we pay is our obedience. Let’s take what we have and give it away! It’s Up To You!
Remember the words of the Sons of Korah in Psalm 84:11…
“The Lord will withhold no good thing from those who do what is right!”
As you obey the word of the Lord, watch great things happen in your life! Watch great things happen in other people’s lives!
It’s up to you!
