The Bridge

Have you seen the picture of two cliffs separated by a deep ravine?  One cliff says “God.” The other says “Man.”  The ravine is labeled “Sin– that separates Man from God.”  Then there is another similar illustration––the same with the exception of having a cross in the ravine. On the Cross is printed the name Jesus.  Jesus is truly the Bridge for man to have relationship with God!

Living on Cape Cod, I am reminded almost on a daily basis the importance of bridges.  In January 2011, I discovered in a Nor’easter’ that if the wind blows over a certain MPH, the State Police close the bridges!  With the recent hurricane Sandy, two bridges were the only way off the Cape. If there is ever construction, an accident, or simply an obstacle “in the way,” the bridges become a congested mess, sometimes for what seems like hours.  In our context, bridges are strong and sturdy, but sometimes a source of great frustration and not always a dependable way across.

Then I think of the Cross of Christ––strong and sturdy, but always dependable!  John 14:6 says, “Jesus answered, ‘I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.’” If Jesus is the only bridge that gets to God, He must be so reliable.  Hebrews 13:8, “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever!” WOW!  That is one dependable BRIDGE!  Never changing, always there, always ready for me to cross, always there for you to have a way out!

You know the ravines and storms of life will keep us off balance and away from the One that really counts in our life––GOD!  Facing those storms and ravines, we have to have a really strong and dependable BRIDGE! A BRIDGE that will never fail us! Duet. 31:6 says, “For He will never leave us or forsake us!”  Who is that He?  Jesus, that’s who!  He will never ever leave you stranded––stranded away from God! He is the strongest and most reliable BRIDGE – EVER!
