There is a myth out there that the Chinese word for “Crisis” is comprised of the word elements for “Danger” and “Opportunity.” Sorry, but it’s not true! Check out this article and find out the truth about its origins: http://www.pinyin.info/chinese/crisis.html.
When you look at this mistruth about the Chinese language, it’s pretty astounding to see the serious forethought that went into making that word in a language. If you look at one of the angles of this word, you will find that the character for opportunity can literally mean “Flying Machine.” Oh well! Ever had your bubble burst on something that you thought was a certain way? I have to admit that I have had that happen to me. I was bummed, but I needed a fresh start, I needed new impact!
Let’s check out the word Impact…
- The striking of one body against another; collision.
- The force or impetus transmitted by a collision.
- The effect or impression of one thing on another.
- The power of making a strong, immediate impression
Those definitions of Impact are pretty much what the Gospel has done in my life! How about you?
Look at Colossians 1:6 “This same Good News that came to you is going out all over the world. It is bearing fruit everywhere by changing lives, just as it changed your lives from the day you first heard and understood the truth about God’s wonderful grace.”
I know that the Chinese word for Crisis is not “Danger and Opportunity,” but our world is in a Crisis! There is danger out there, because the world is hostile to the Gospel. But the OPPORTUNITY is great! Let’s go make an IMPACT with the Gospel! Go make a POWERFUL, STRONG, and IMMEDIATE IMPRESSION!
