Bodhi the Dog

Bodhi-the-Dog
I just read a story that really moved me.  Growing up as a Military Dependent, I have a real honor for men and women in the military.  And well…I love dogs too!  This story has both!

Army Sergeant Nick B. is out on patrol in a village in Afghanistan, comes across a tied down dog in very poor shape––underfed, covered in mud, both ears chopped up, deaf in one ear, and half of his tail gone.  Sgt. B. began to barter with the “owners” with some cigarettes.  The end result––Sgt. B. takes Bodhi home.  Home all the way to Pensacola, FL. (http://www.fox10tv.com/dpp/news/local_news/pensacola/Bodhi-gets-a-second-chance)!

I was really moved for a couple of reasons, but the reason that jumped to the top of the list was the great picture of how much Christ loves us!  The Bible says in Romans 5:8 (NLT) “But God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners.”

Many of us have scars.  Life has been tough on us and to us.  Like Bodhi the dog, we are beat up and scarred.  Yet in spite of these scars, Jesus looks for us, finds us, and loves us.  He loves us so much that He gave up His life for you and me!  What a great picture!

After surgery, Bodhi can now hear in the deaf ear.  He is happy and enjoying his new life with lots of love, food, and a pool to swim in.  Today, let me encourage you!  Sgt. B. bartered a few cigarettes for Bodhi the dog.  Jesus Christ gave His life for you and me!

No matter where you go today, if you see a dog, think of the bond that dog and owner have.  Then think of the love that Jesus has for you and me!
