Ex. 33:11 “Inside the Tent of Meeting, the Lord would speak to Moses face to face, as one speaks to a friend. Afterward Moses would return to the camp. But the young man who assisted him, Joshua son of Nun, would remain behind in the Tent of Meeting!”
This is one of my favorite passages in scripture. I have a lot of ties to it. I remember hearing it in a sermon as a teenager. It stuck with me all these years. I preached a message on this passage during my youth ministry in Memphis for the first “Compel” night we ever had. I also have a red rubber bracelet on my desk that says Audience of 1––a constant reminder of this passage of scripture.
Audience of 1… who does that refer to? The answer…You (&/or me) and God! We must live our lives so that they matter for only an Audience of 1! You matter to Jesus. Does He matter to you? Does He matter to the point that everything you and I do, we do for Him, unto Him, and because of Him. As we move from fan to follower of Christ, the priority of our life becomes Jesus and nothing else! We live for Him!
Recently, I was talking with some Christ Followers. They were talking about how easy things were and how that must be a sign of God’s will. I thought to myself, “Does that mean that Jesus dying on the cross wasn’t in His will? No way!” Let’s remember that the purpose of everything we go through, the good and bad, is to give glory to God. We should give God the GLORY for the things that He gives us and the times He takes away! Let’s remember that we are living this life as an example of love to our family, an example of grace and mercy to the non-believer, but most importantly we are living it to an AUDIENCE OF 1!
Remember that no matter what you do in this life, always endeavor to live it for your Audience of 1––Jesus!
Thanks Dan. Great reminder.
