Pick a Temp––Stay There!

The dog days of summer are upon Cape Cod this week! Three days straight in the high 80s to low 90s! We went from mid-60’s to HOT in no time! Beaches are crowded, iced coffee sales are at an all-time high, and the windows are shut with window air conditioner units on full blast (well at least in our house)!

Let me start this post by saying, “I am all about the cool!” One of the things I love about Cape Cod is that the weather is great eight months (October–May) out of the year! The purpose of this is not to be a meteorological essay on Cape Cod, but something else that really strikes me about climate!
You know, during the winter months people say they cannot wait for the really perfect season. Freedom––flip flops and water––a great combo! Then in the summer months we all try to figure out how to stay cool. Some even resort to complaining about the heat and how it is so unbearable.

The truth is, it is not just Cape Cod; this is the case in every place that I have ever lived! We want out of the current temps no matter hot or cold! Now as I think this through all the way, this post becomes a spiritual meteorological essay!

Romans 12:11&12 (MSG) 11-12 “Don’t burn out; keep yourselves fueled and aflame. Be alert servants of the Master, cheerfully expectant. Don’t quit in hard times; pray all the harder.” Paul tells the Christians in Rome to press on, but to stay hot! Don’t look for the cool down, look for the fire!

Jesus tells us to stay HOT or COLD––not room temperature. In other words, pick a temperature and stay on that mercury level!

Paul told the Christians in Rome to pick the harder way. Ever notice how it is harder to keep the fire going than it is to lose the fire? You have to work at “stay hot” and “on fire” for any purpose! Even with exercise you have to “work up a sweat!”

Are you ready today to find the way to keep the temperature up in your life? I am! Now I just need to figure out the secret to happiness in the heat! I guess that’s why the sand at the beach is hot to the feet!
